Madras to Chennai
The decision to change the name has come 19 years after Madras officially became Chennai. It has come as a surprise as there has been no vociferous demand to change the name. It was in 1996, during the chief ministership of M Karunanidhi, that Madras was renamed as Chennai.

Chennai is also known for the classical Indiandance, the Bharatanatyam, which is also the official dance of Tamil Nadu. An important cultural centre for Bharatanatyam is Kalakshetra (Sanskrit for "place of the arts"), located on the beach in the south of the city

Kollywood may refer to the Tamil language film industry in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu which is in specific Kodambakkam in chennai.
