Today further 81 patients being treated at London hospitals have sadly died of coronavirus.

NHS England released the figures this afternoon (Monday, April 20). In England, the total number of deaths is now at 14,829.

The capital’s total death toll has now climbed to 3,906. In the UK, 16,509 deaths have now been confirmed.

The Department of Health and Social Care said: “As of 5pm on April 19, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 16,509 have sadly died.”

A spokesperson for NHS England said: “A further 429 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 14,829.

“Patients were aged between 40 and 101 years old. 15 of the 429 patients (aged between 49 and 92 years old) had no known underlying health condition.
