Cyclone Amphan – 72 dead in West Bengal… Severe damage caused to houses and trees uprooted in Kalagachia village of East Medinipur District due to Cyclone Amphan.Two teams of NDRF were airlifted by an Indian Air Force aircraft to Kolkata, West Bengal from Pune, Maharashtra, today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake an aerial survey of “cyclone-hit” areas on Friday, official sources said.A powerful cyclone Amphan tore into West Bengal, leaving 72 people dead and thousands homeless, battering several parts of the state and washing away bridges and swamping low-lying areas.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that Rs 1,000 crore fund has been created for restoration work for areas affected in cyclone Amphan, which has claimed the lives of 72 people so far in the state.
